Fruits and Vegetables
- 2 medium mangos, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 to 1 habanero pepper, finely chopped (with or without seeds, depending on spice preference)
- Juice of 1/2 lime
Seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Finely chop the mangoes, red onion, red bell pepper, fresh cilantro, and habanero pepper. Be sure to wear kitchen gloves when handling the habanero to avoid irritation from its spicy oils.
- Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, add the chopped mango, onion, bell pepper, cilantro, habanero, lime juice, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Taste and Adjust: Sample the salsa and add more salt or lime juice if desired to enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness and spice.
Notes
- You can use fresh or frozen mango; if using frozen, thaw completely and drain any excess liquid before chopping.
- Wearing kitchen gloves when handling habanero peppers is strongly recommended to prevent skin irritation and painful contact with eyes or face.
- For a milder salsa, substitute habanero with jalapeño or serrano peppers, or omit altogether.
- Control spice level by adjusting the amount of habanero seeds included—more seeds increase heat.
