Ingredients
Scale
Cheese and Toppings
- 10 ounce brie cheese wheel (8-12 ounces)
- 1/3 cup fig jam (see notes for other jam options)
- 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
Puff Pastry and Egg Wash
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
For Serving and Garnish
- Fruit, crackers, or crostini
- Rosemary or thyme sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400℉ (204℃) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Roll Out Puff Pastry: Gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to a 10-12 inch square, providing enough surface area to wrap around the brie.
- Assemble Brie and Toppings: Place the brie wheel in the center of the puff pastry. Spread the fig jam evenly on top of the brie, then sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the jam for added texture and flavor.
- Cut and Wrap Pastry: Make a cut at each corner of the puff pastry, towards the center, stopping about ½ inch from the brie. This creates four triangular flaps. Carefully bring each flap up and over the brie, folding them like a pinwheel, and press the seams together. Brush the seams with the egg wash to help seal the pastry.
- Chill Before Baking: Place the wrapped brie in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to firm up the pastry, which helps maintain its shape during baking.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Remove the brie from the fridge and brush the entire surface generously with the remaining egg wash to achieve a golden, shiny crust.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the baked brie stand for 5 minutes. Serve warm with fruits, nuts, crackers, and bread. Garnish with rosemary or thyme sprigs if desired.
Notes
- Baked Brie with Jam makes a stunning appetizer for parties and special occasions.
- Fig jam provides a perfect sweet contrast to the savory brie, but other jams like apricot or raspberry work well too.
- Chilling the wrapped brie before baking helps keep the pastry neat and prevents over-spreading.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor, pairing with fresh fruit and crunchy crackers or crostini.
