Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cupcakes: Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box to make a batch of vanilla cupcakes. Bake them until done and let them cool completely before frosting.
  2. Make the Frosting: Prepare 1 to 2 batches of the Best Buttercream Frosting recipe, depending on how many cupcakes you plan to frost.
  3. Divide and Color Frosting: Once the frosting is ready, divide it into three parts. Assign approximately 1 cup for purple (mix of pink and blue coloring), 3/4 cup for green (mix of yellow and blue coloring), and 1/2 cup for black frosting. Use Wilton Color Right Food Coloring to achieve these colors.
  4. Apply Purple Frosting: Using the Wilton 1M tip and decorating bag, pipe one and a half circles of purple frosting around the edge of each cupcake to form the bottom swirl layer.
  5. Add Green Frosting: Pipe another one and a half circles of green frosting inside the purple layer, making this ring slightly smaller than the bottom layer.
  6. Finish with Black Frosting: Finally, pipe a third, smaller circle of black frosting on top. End this swirl with an upward peak flourish for a spooky effect.
