Description

Creamy Garlic Shrimp Over Mashed Potatoes is a luxurious comfort food dish featuring juicy, paprika-seasoned shrimp sautéed to perfection and served atop smooth, buttery mashed potatoes, all drizzled with a rich and velvety garlic Parmesan sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)

Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Mashed Potatoes: Boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return them to the pot. Mash with the butter and warm milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt to taste. Cover to keep warm.
  2. Cook the Shrimp: Toss the shrimp with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook shrimp 2–3 minutes per side until pink and just cooked through. Remove shrimp and set aside. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Make the Creamy Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in Parmesan cheese and optional Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates, top with shrimp, and pour the creamy garlic sauce over. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves. Serve immediately while warm and creamy.

Notes

  • Warming the milk before adding it to the mashed potatoes helps keep them smooth and fluffy rather than gluey.
  • Do not overcrowd the skillet when cooking shrimp to ensure even searing. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Optional add-ons to the sauce include a splash of white wine or a pinch of red chili flakes for extra flavor.
  • Serve this dish immediately to enjoy the creamy texture and warm flavors at their best.
