Description

Graveyard Taco Cups are a fun and festive Halloween-inspired appetizer featuring pizza crust cutouts shaped like trees and tombstones, baked to a light crisp and layered with warm refried black beans, fresh guacamole, and topped with chopped black olives and green onions. Perfect for a spooky party or themed meal, these taco cups combine creamy, savory, and crunchy textures with simple, wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Crust & Decorations

  • 2 FlatOut pizza crusts
  • Olive oil, for coating
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Edible pen, for decorating tombstones

Refried Beans Mixture

  • 1 can refried black beans

Guacamole

  • 2 avocados
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Sea salt, to taste

Toppings

  • 8 black olives, chopped
  • Green onion, chopped (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190°C) to get ready for baking the pizza crust shapes.
  2. Prepare Stencils: Draw a tree and tombstone shape on paper and cut them out to use as stencils for cutting the pizza crusts precisely. Alternatively, use Halloween-themed cookie cutters if available.
  3. Cut Shapes: Using the stencils, carefully cut out tree and tombstone shapes from the FlatOut pizza crusts. An Exact-O-Knife works best for precision, but ensure children are supervised if involved.
  4. Bake Crust Shapes: Lightly brush the cut shapes with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt, then place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 5-8 minutes or until the edges begin to turn a light golden brown.
  5. Cool and Decorate: Remove the baked shapes from the oven and allow them to cool completely. Once cool, use an edible pen to write “R.I.P.” on the tombstone shapes to create a spooky effect.
  6. Heat Beans: Warm the refried black beans on medium-low heat in a saucepan until thoroughly heated through. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. Make Guacamole: In a bowl, scoop the avocado flesh and add minced garlic, lime juice, and sea salt. Mash everything until smooth and creamy to make fresh guacamole.
  8. Assemble Taco Cups: Layer the taco cups by first adding a spoonful of warm refried beans, followed by a generous layer of guacamole. Top each with chopped black olives and green onions for a flavorful finish.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle a little chili powder or cumin into the guacamole if desired.
  • Use an edible food pen designed for decorating baked goods to write on the tombstones safely.
  • These taco cups are best served fresh the same day to maintain crispness of crusts.
  • Substitute black refried beans with any preferred bean variety for variation.
  • If you want to make this recipe vegan and gluten-free, ensure the FlatOut crusts you use meet those dietary needs.
