Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Cook, breaking the beef into small pieces, until it starts to brown, about 7–9 minutes.
- Sauté the Onion and Bell Pepper: Push the cooked beef to the edges of the skillet. Add the salted butter to the center, followed by the sliced onion and green bell pepper. Stir occasionally and cook until the vegetables are softened and slightly browned, about 5–6 minutes.
- Incorporate the Cream Cheese: Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the cubed cream cheese to the skillet and fold it into the beef and vegetable mix. Stir until the cream cheese is fully melted and the mixture becomes creamy and well combined.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Turn off the heat. Spoon about 1/2 cup of the beef mixture onto each bun. Top each sandwich with a slice of provolone cheese. Serve immediately, while hot and melty.
- Toast the Buns (Optional): For best results, toast the buns before assembling. Slice the buns in half and place them cut-side down in a dry skillet over medium heat for 1–2 minutes, or under a broiler for 1–2 minutes, until golden brown.
Notes
- Customize your cheesesteaks with your favorite toppings, such as mushrooms, pickled or hot peppers, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, or hot sauce.
- For toasted buns, use either a dry skillet or a broiler, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
- If you prefer, you can dice the onion and bell pepper instead of slicing for a different texture.
- Substitute provolone cheese with American cheese or Cheese Whiz for a different flavor.
- This recipe is great for meal prepping; just reheat the beef mixture and assemble when ready to serve.
