Description

This Ground Beef Orzo with Tomato Cream Sauce is a comforting and flavorful one-pot meal that is perfect for a cozy dinner at home. The creamy tomato sauce pairs beautifully with the tender orzo pasta and seasoned ground beef.

Ground Beef Orzo:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta

Tomato Cream Sauce:

  • 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups (packed) fresh baby spinach
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to a soup pot/Dutch oven and cook over medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Add Ingredients: Stir in onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and orzo. Cook for about a minute.
  3. Make the Sauce: Add tomato sauce, beef broth, cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often.
  4. Finish and Serve: Stir in Parmesan and spinach, cover for 3-5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt & pepper before serving.

Notes

  • Serves 4-6 depending on portion size/what else it’s served with.
  • Tomato sauce in North America is similar to passata in the U.K./Australia/etc.
  • Adjust liquid quantities based on personal preference.
