Chicken Wings
- 3 lbs. chicken wings (drums and wingettes)
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
Honey Garlic Sauce
- 1/2 cup honey (153g)
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp. coconut aminos (30g)
- 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
- 1 Tbsp. water
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it reaches the proper baking temperature.
- Prepare chicken wings: If your wings are not pre-cut, cut them into wingettes and drumettes using a sharp knife to see the joints and discard the tips.
- Season wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper on all sides.
- Brown the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the seasoned wings and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Mix the sauce: In a bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well until blended.
- Coat wings with sauce: Once the wings are browned, pour the honey garlic sauce over them in the skillet. Toss the wings to coat thoroughly. The sauce will be thin at this stage.
- Bake the chicken: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, toss wings again with sauce, then bake for an additional 5 minutes or until fully cooked and bubbling.
- Thicken the sauce: Remove wings from the skillet and set aside. Place the skillet over medium-high heat, bring remaining sauce to a boil, then whisk in the arrowroot powder dissolved in water. Continue whisking until sauce thickens.
- Coat with thickened sauce: Return the wings to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the thickened sauce. Pour any extra sauce over the wings for extra flavor.
- Serve and enjoy: Plate the wings, garnish with optional red pepper flakes, and serve hot with celery, carrot sticks, and your favorite dip like ranch or blue cheese.
