Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 (14.75 ounce) can salmon, drained of all but 2 tablespoons of the can liquid, flaked
- 1 large slice bread (crust removed), shredded (1 cup, 50 g)
- 3 tablespoons green onion, chopped (including the green parts)
- 1 medium garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped, or 1 teaspoon dried
- 3 tablespoons green bell pepper, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Several turns of freshly ground black pepper
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, gently mix together the flaked salmon (including 2 tablespoons of the can liquid), shredded bread, chopped green onion, minced garlic, fresh dill, minced green bell pepper, flour, egg, paprika, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until all ingredients are well combined.
- Form Patties: Shape the mixture into 8 patties about 1/2 inch thick, ensuring they hold together firmly but gently to avoid breaking.
- Chill Patties: Cover the patties and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape during cooking. They can be chilled for several hours if preferred.
- Heat Oil: Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, ready for frying.
- Cook Patties: Add the patties to the hot skillet and cook until nicely browned on one side, about 3 to 4 minutes. Carefully flip and cook the other side for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove patties from skillet and serve warm as a flavorful main dish or appetizer. Optionally pair with a salad or dipping sauce of your choice.
Notes
- These salmon patties made with canned salmon offer convenience without compromising flavor.
- Fresh herbs like dill and lemon zest add brightness and freshness to the patties.
- Chilling the patties before cooking helps them stay intact and results in a better texture.
- Use a non-stick skillet or well-seasoned pan to prevent sticking during pan-frying.
- Serve with a light salad or tartar sauce for a complete meal.
