Scale
For the Steak and Marinade
- 1 pound beef sirloin steak or beef tenderloin
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Gnocchi
- 2 pounds dried packaged gnocchi
For Cooking
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
For Serving (Optional)
- 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Dice the beef sirloin or tenderloin into bite-sized pieces. Trim away any excess fat or sinew for a better texture. Place the steak bites in a gallon-sized resealable bag or a shallow bowl suitable for marinating.
- Marinate the Steak: Add lemon juice, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the steak. Toss to fully coat the meat. Cover (or seal the bag) and refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour, up to 8 hours, to infuse flavor and tenderize the steak.
- Cook the Gnocchi: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the dried gnocchi and cook according to the package instructions. Drain thoroughly and set aside.
- Brown the Steak: While the gnocchi cooks, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Using tongs, transfer half the steak pieces to the skillet, leaving as much of the marinade behind as possible. Sear the steak, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked to your preference. Remove and repeat with the remaining steak to avoid overcrowding. Combine all cooked steak bites back into the skillet.
- Add Butter and Garlic: Reduce the heat slightly and add the butter and minced garlic to the skillet with the steak. Sauté for about 1 minute, allowing the garlic to become fragrant and slightly toasted.
- Sauté the Gnocchi: Add the cooked and drained gnocchi to the skillet. Sauté everything together for 3-5 minutes, stirring often, until the gnocchi is lightly browned and coated in the flavorful butter and juices.
- Serve: Plate hot, and sprinkle generously with freshly grated parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the steak as long as possible within the 1-8 hour window.
- Be sure to avoid crowding the skillet when searing steak for a nice, caramelized crust.
- Swap beef for chicken if you prefer a lighter option.
- Use refrigerated or homemade gnocchi if desired, just adjust cooking time accordingly.
- Customize with your favorite herbs, such as parsley or thyme, for a fresh finish.
